The man who has guided the Summit County Fair for the past six years, Travis English, has resigned.
County manager Tom Fisher announced that English is leaving his dual role with the county—as Manager for the Fair and also Special Events Coordinator.
Fisher commended the work that English has done on the fair, based in Coalville’s City Park.
“Taking the fair in conjunction with the fair board and the public to where it is today," Fisher continued. "Improving that, improving the number of visitors that come to the fair and the offerings there. It's truly reflecting our heritage as we project that.”
Fisher said they still have to put on a County Fair this August. To do that, they will contract with Silly Market organizers, who helped the event behind the scenes in recent years. The staff coordinator for the Fair this summer will be a temporary employee from several previous Fairs.
English’s other hat was guiding Special Events in the county. Fisher said you can tell it’s a big job, just by what’s coming up this summer.
“A lot of things happening at the Canyons," Fisher explained. "A lot of film production, television production, going on in the County. All of that has some component that coordinates law enforcement, coordinates fire, EMS, all of those things that those events rely on the County to help coordinate. Any kind of Health Department regulation that has to go on with a special event.”
Fisher said that next week, they will start advertising for the joint position of Fair Manager and Special Events Director. The County Manager said they will look internally, then outside the county staff if necessary, and hope to have someone on board by August.
