Summit County Lifts Stay At Home Order Effective May 1

Summit County Council voted Thursday afternoon to lift the Stay At Home Order effective Friday, May 1.

The council unanimously voted for a new Joint Public Health Order to go into effect, which the lawmakers say will transition Summit County to the Stabilization Phase of the COVID-19 response.

The new order had to be approved by Utah Governor Gary Herbert before the council could vote on it, because it is different than the Executive Order signed by the governor Wednesday.  Council members said Summit County's order isn't "more strict" just "more detailed."

It is recommended that all residents wear a non-surgical mask or face covering that completely covers the nose and mouth whenever possible in public settings. Social distancing protocols, staying at least six feet away from other people, should also still be followed.  And public and private gatherings are restricted to 20 people or less.

The order allows business to reopen if they follow business-specific protocols for 32 different local business sectors.  Those protocols are listed in the order, which can be viewed in its entirety by clicking  here.

KPCW will have more on this story as it develops.  Tune in to The Local News Hour Friday morning at 8:15am to hear KPCW News Director Leslie Thatcher interview Summit County Health Director Rich Bullough about the decision to lift the Stay At Home Order.
