Heber City Police Respond To Two Events Over The Weekend

Heber Police Department

Heber City Police share with the public two events that occurred over the weekend.

On Saturday Heber City Police received reports about possible threats to the police building. Text messages discussing vandalism and setting fire to the police department building located on Main Street as a form of protest were forwarded to the police by concerned citizens.

Heber Police Department says while they welcome protesting, they do not welcome vandalism, breaking the law and setting fire.

Police presence was increased Saturday evening but there was no follow through on the threats, and there were no protests, peaceful or otherwise, in Heber over the weekend.

The department adds their most important concern is that the city maintains its peace and that citizens are safe.

On Monday around 4:20 am Police were dispatched to Walmart after an employee reported a suspicious package. The area was secured, and police reviewed video footage of a man in his 30’s pacing back and forth before setting the bag down around 9:00 pm. The man then walked through the parking lot towards highway 189. Utah County Bomb Squad checked the bag using x-rays and trained dogs before they determined it was not a threat. Law Enforcement cleared the area around 8:00 am and Walmart re-opened. Police report the bag contained personal belongings.
