Utah Department of Transportation officials are asking drivers to plan for delays next week on Tuesday, July 21, and Thursday, July 23, while it works on two new undercrossing roads. The work requires crews to narrow the westbound corridor of U.S. 40 to one lane.
UDOT crews are excavating between milepost seven and nine, near the Mayflower exit on Highway 40.
So far, the project has allowed all travel lanes to remain open. However, on Tuesday, July 21, and Thursday, July 23, they will reduce travel to one lane near milepost 7. It will impact motorists traveling from Heber to Park City. As crews install the other 3 bridges, they’ll need to shift traffic accordingly. In total, they’ll install four bridges in two separate locations.
The undercrossings will flank the Mayflower exit, allowing for motorists to cross the highway on the north and the south ends of the interchange.
Currently, they’re placing stabilizing equipment for the bridges on the westbound lane. UDOT will monitor the impacts to motorists and plans to maintain delays of fewer than 15 minutes during the two days of lane closures.
Residents, businesses, and travelers can expect extra noise, vibrations, and dust. Officials warn that the construction increases environmental particulates in the area.
Various lane closures will continue through the construction period, which ends in June of 2021. For more information, visit the project's page on UDOT's website.
