Hospitalization and case rates in Utah continue to rise, this comes the day after Governor Gary Herbert announced new COVID-19 health orders.
Utah’s Department of Health reported 78 new hospitalizations on Monday. Now, there are 444 people in the hospital for COVID-19 in the state. This time last week there were 348 people hospitalized. The state also announced 2,247 new COVID-19 cases.
Summit County saw 24 new infections, and last Monday - for comparison - Summit reported 13 new infections.
And in Wasatch County, the health department reported 22 new cases, last Monday the county saw 10.
Summit County’s seven-day average of positive laboratory tests is currently at 11.8%, and 24.5% of tests are coming back positive in Wasatch County. The percent for positive test results in the state is 21.5%. Only a month ago, the state’s average of positive tests was 13.8%.
The state reported two new deaths — there have been 661 COVID-19 related deaths since the start of the pandemic. Summit and Wasatch Counties have not reported any new deaths in the past week. Summit County has seen one COVID-19 related death since the start of the pandemic and Wasatch County has reported nine.
Under new health orders from Governor Gary Herbert, masks are required in all businesses until futher notice, and all social gatherings are off limits for the next two weeks.
