Utah has seen its worst week for COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, and on Sunday the state’s department of health reported another 2,667 cases.
The 7-day rolling average of new cases is now 2,985 per day. This time last week the state’s 7-day average was 2,290.
Summit County saw 31 new cases, and last Sunday - for comparison - Summit reported 26 new infections.
And in Wasatch County, the health department reported 32 new cases, last Sunday the county saw 29.
Summit County’s seven-day average of positive laboratory tests is currently at 16%, and 19.5% of tests are coming back positive in Wasatch County. The percent for positive test results in the state is 24.3%. Only a month ago, the state’s average of positive tests was 13.9%.
Utah’s Department of Health reported 93 new hospitalizations Sunday. Now, there are 484 people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. This time last week there were 424 people hospitalized.
The state reported eightnew deaths — there have been 718 COVID-19 related deaths since the start of the pandemic. Wasatch County reported two new deaths last Tuesday. And Summit County reported one new death on Saturday. Since the start of the pandemic, Summit County has seen two COVID-19 related deaths and Wasatch County has reported 10.
Under new health orders from Governor Gary Herbert, masks are required in all businesses indefinitely and all social gatherings between different households are off limits until Nov. 23.
