On This Green Earth, Nell and Chris welcome Wendy Fisher, Executive Director of Utah Open Lands.

Fisher discusses the Trying Times Conservation Easements and Federal Tax Law Seminar, a recent seminar which addressed conservation easements and the impact federal tax laws have on them.

Fisher also covers the dramatic increase in the use of open space during the pandemic. Places like Bonanza Flat have seen a 300% increase in traffic, and with this increase brings new challenges. Fisher highlights the need to become better stewards of the land and make sure we don’t “love the land to death”.

And, Kat Maus, Director of Public Engagement for Utah Open Lands, also joins the show to discuss her recent master's thesis, which included a study of urban pollinators.

Maus worked with Wasatch Community Gardens to build pollinator specific plots in 2020. She researched the best plants that would attract pollinators (butterflies, honeybees and other native bees), including utilizing drought tolerant plants.
