Cox Further Restricts Watering; Fireworks Banned

In his third executive order pertaining to the current drought, Utah Governor Spencer Cox said today that fireworks will not be allowed on state-owned and unincorporated lands this year.

Saying that by all indicators, 2021 could be the state’s worst drought year on record, Cox limited watering at some state facilities to twice weekly. A previous order had allowed three days per week.

The fireworks order comes from the State Forester and the Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands. No fireworks are allowed on the state trust lands known as SITLA either.

The state allows cities and towns to make their own decisions about fireworks. Municipalities look to fire service experts for guidance. So this may impact plans for 4th of July celebrations in Summit and Wasatch County towns. KPCW will update this story as we learn more.
