South Summit School Bond Defeated

Voters in the South Summit School District voted down a $58.6 million bond Tuesday night.  The vote was 1,167 against the bond, and 939 for the bond.   School officials said the bond was needed to build a new high school and accommodate growth in the Kamas-based district.   If it had passed, the bond would have added $96 in taxes a year per $100,000 value of a home in the district.  School Superintendent Shad Sorenson told KPCW in October that if the bond failed, the district would have to consider portable classrooms or year-round schools.
