The wasps were led by Zak Kohler. The senior won his final match 13-8 and secured his fourth state tile to become a member of the prestigious four-time state champion club. Kohler will wrestle in college for the Air Force Academy. Other Wasps that won a state title include River Wardle, Sammy Heywood, Stockton O’Brien and Porter Chamberlain. The most dramatic title match of the tournament included two Wasatch wrestlers. Mitchell Slack defeated teammate Deklan Kelly 1-0. Brock Lloyd also placed 2nd while Noah Roylance placed 3rd for the wasps.

In the 3A division state tournament South Summit’s Taigon Bushell placed 3rd while Jed Lee placed 2nd for the wildcats.

In the 2A division state tournament the week before North Summit’s Ethan Crittenden, Ryker Pentz and Tyler Scheurn all won individual titles for the braves.

Meanwhile Rebekah Hardman of Park City High School placed 1st at the Utah Girls High School  State Championships while Tenley Jones from North Summit High placed 2nd. The tournament was not sponsored by the Utah High School Activities Association but depending on a vote in the coming months; next year could be the first year girls wrestling is sanctioned by the association. Currently female wrestlers compete with males and at occasional all girls’ tournaments. Utah would be the 13th state to add girls wrestling.
