The South Summit School Board has a meeting set for next Tuesday night, February 26th, to look at the School District’s major priorities.
The School Board is set to meet on the 26th, 5:30 pm at the District office. Superintendent Shad Sorenson said the focus of the meeting is on their Master Plan.
“I’m looking at our list of projects that we need to complete and figure out exactly how to prioritize them,” Sorenson continued. “We just do not have the funding that we need to cover all of those and so we have to have a priority list. Of course the board is still moving forward with a proposed bond that the community will be able to vote on in November.” Sorenson said that they don’t know the amount of the bond yet but figuring out that number will be part of Tuesday’s meeting.
On another topic, the District is hoping for an annexation of some property into Kamas. Sorenson said it’s a 150-acre parcel they recently acquired.
“There’s a portion of our property that we purchased that are in the city limits, but the remainder is not,” Sorenson said. “We also have three property owners adjacent to us that are interested in annexation. We have begun the process which was the first in a public appearance in a city council meeting. We are now providing the surveys and the written documentation that are required and then it’ll go before the planning and city councils.” Sorenson explained that without annexation they would have to use a more challenging septic system. “It’s for the water and the sewer access for the new buildings.”
