Heber Man Arrested After Attempting To Steal And Load A Gun

A Heber city man has been arrested after he and a Sportsman’s Warehouse manager wrestled over a gun on Friday.

According to a probable cause statement, Heber resident Jose Sosa went into Sportsman’s Warehouse in Heber the morning of July 12th, where he spoke with the firearm manager at the store. After looking at ammunition Sosa told the manager he’d like to look at a handgun. When the manager gave the gun to Sosa he asked for the price of the gun before pocketing it and telling the manager “Thanks”. Sosa then began walking away from the counter. The manager called out to stop Sosa before running around the counter and down the aisle where she saw Sosa was attempting to load the gun.

The manager grabbed the gun, and a struggle ensued as the two fought over the gun. At one-point Sosa pointed the gun at the manager. Two customers in the store helped tackle Sosa to the ground wrestling the gun away from him. The two customers and the manager were also able to detain Sosa until law enforcement arrived and made the arrest.

The 28-year-old man has had prior run ins with the law. Police say he has two prior aggravated robbery charges, officers also noted that Sosa is mentally unstable and violent when he does not take his medications, Sosa told officers that he had not been taking his medications. Sosa was arrested for possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted individual, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.
