A Coalville man who engaged in a brief standoff with police in January has been sentenced in Third District Court to three years of supervised probation.

The sentence was given on April 13th to 39-year-old Nicholas Allen Bosworth.

The Sheriff’s Department reported that on the morning of January 16th,, they responded to the Coalville residence of Bosworth’s girlfriend, who said that he had pointed a shotgun at her several times when they were arguing and threw a plastic box that lacerated her face.

Officers tracked him a short distance away to his grandmother’s house, where he went into the garage and refused several times to come out.    He gave up shortly afterward, but North Summit’s school campuses nearby were placed on lockdown during the incident.

On April 13th, Judge Richard Mrazik sentenced Bosworth for Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a Restricted Person and Reckless Endangerment.

He was sentenced to prison time and jail time, but those sentences were either suspended, or Bosworth was given credit for days he had already served in the county jail.

He was directed to comply with the standard terms and conditions of probation.   One additional condition is that the defendant is to regard his mother as a second Probation Officer, since he will be living at home with her, and he has to comply with any of her lawful orders.
