Guardsman Pass will be closed to traffic starting on Thursday for repaving in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

The construction is part of a larger UDOT project to repave nine miles of S.R. 190 in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

The project began in early July and is scheduled to continue into the fall.

Guardsman Pass from the S.R. 190 entrance in Big Cottonwood to the winter gate will be closed on Thursday, July 9, Monday, July 13, and Tuesday, July 14.

UDOT Public Information Officer John Gleason said the closures are necessary for safety during the repaving because the pass is too narrow for construction machinery and traffic to share the work zone.

Traffic from Summit and Wasatch counties via Empire Pass and Pine Canyon Drive will not be able to link up with S.R. 190 in Big Cottonwood Canyon during the construction days.

Guardsman Pass will be open to traffic from Friday, July 10, to Sunday, July 12.
