Summit County Sheriff's Office

A hunter discovered the remains of a man who had been missing for nearly a year.

The hunter called the Summit County Sheriff’s Office after he found human bones along with other items like clothing, a survival pack and a hunting rifle. Investigators and Summit County Search & Rescue team were dispatched to search the area and recover the bones and items.

The remains were determined to be those of Carl Crumrine. Crumrine went missing Oct. 14, 2019. The 69-year-old from West Virginia was hunting in a group at the Lyman Lake area.

A member of the group called law enforcement when Crumrine did not return back to the campsite. An official search started the same night.

Crumrine’s remains were found about a mile from where he had been camping. The area is densely wooded with fallen trees.
