An attempted extortion was reported by a business on Park City’s Main Street on Tuesday.
The Historic Park City Alliance says a local business reported an individual entered their store on Monday, walked a few feet inside, and loudly claimed to not be able to shop there.
The individual later called the store and told the employee who answered the phone they would be posting negatively on social media about their experience and would also be using the employee’s name.
The store was contacted again on Tuesday afternoon by the same individual and said they would remove the post if the store paid them $300.
The Park City Police Department requests merchants who experience a similar incident call the police department’s dispatch at 435-615-5500 and file an official complaint.
The HPCA is currently compiling resources to assist businesses who fall victim to false, defamatory, or fraudulent reviews and online attacks.
