An 11-year-old girl was hit by a driver who was under the influence Saturday afternoon.

Lieutenant Andrew Wright, with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said the 11-year-old was walking on the sidewalk near Pinebrook Blvd and Pointe Road around 1:30 p.m. when a BMW sedan vered off the road and hit the girl.

“In the middle of the day... here you have a child that's enjoying the nicer weather before the storm rolls in and had someone that was being very irresponsible,” Wright said. “Luckily, that little girl sustained minor injuries, that could have been a far different outcome, based off of the circumstances.”

Wright said the young girl had some scratches on her wrists, ankles and feet.

The driver who hit the girl is Elizabeth Grambau, a 36-year-old from Salt Lake City. Grambau was arrested for driving under the influence of both alcohol and prescription drugs.

She was taken into custody under a number of violations including invalid registration, lack of insurance, failure to operate a vehicle in a single lane and various warrants.

The driver was booked with a felony DUI because this was her third violation within the past couple years.
