Monday COVID-19 Update: Summit County Reports 33 New Cases, Wasatch County Reports 35

Utah’s Health Department reported 2,244 new COVID-19 cases Monday. The 7-day rolling average of new cases is now per day 3,349. This time last week the state’s 7-day average was 2,949.

Summit County saw 33 new cases, and last Monday - for comparison - Summit reported 19 new infections.

And in Wasatch County, the health department reported 35 new cases, last Monday the county saw 24.

Summit County’s seven-day average of positive laboratory tests is almost 16%, and 25.5% of tests are coming back positive in Wasatch County. The percent for positive test results in the state is nearly 24%. Only a month ago, the state’s average of positive tests was about 16%.

Utah’s Department of Health reported 70 new hospitalizations Monday. There are 545 people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. This time last week there were 503 people hospitalized.

The state reported four new deaths — there have been 797 COVID-19 related deaths since the start of the pandemic. Since the start of the pandemic, Summit County has seen four COVID-19 related deaths and Wasatch County has reported 12.

Under new health orders from Governor Gary Herbert, masks are required indefinitely and Herbert announced that social gatherings are no longer restricted in the state starting Tuesday.
