Tuesday COVID-19 Update: Utah Sees 2,701 New Cases, Wasatch County Reports Another COVID-19 Death

Utah’s Health Department reported 2,701 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday.

Utah’s Department of Health reported 11 new deaths — there have been 808 COVID-19 related deaths since the start of the pandemic. One of the deaths was a Wasatch County man between the ages of 45-64 years old. He was hospitalized when he died. 

Since the start of the pandemic, Summit County has seen four COVID-19 related deaths and Wasatch County has reported 13.

The 7-day rolling average of new cases is now 3,284 per day. This time last week the state’s 7-day average was 3,057.

Summit County saw 16 new cases, and last Tuesday - for comparison - Summit reported 33 new infections.

The Wasatch County Health Department reported 41 new cases. Last Tuesday the county saw 59.

Summit County’s seven-day average of positive laboratory tests is currently about 14%, and 25.5% of tests are coming back positive in Wasatch County. The percent for positive test results in the state is 23%, which is down from yesterday’s percentage. Only a month ago, the state’s average of positive tests was about 16%.

Utah’s Department of Health reported 100 new hospitalizations Tuesday. There are 552 people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. And 82% of all ICU beds are currently in use.

Summit and Wasatch Counties along with 24 other counties in the state are in the high risk level of Utah’s COVID-19 transmission index. However, masks are required statewide, and limits on social gathers are suggested not required.
