The options for the man sent to prison for shooting to death a Park City bartender nearly five years ago have ended. James Henfling who is serving a prison term of 16 years to life has unsuccessfully petitioned the state’s highest court for a new trial.
The Utah Supreme Court has denied what’s called certiorari in the matter of State of Utah v. James Henfling.
Henfling was convicted by a Summit County jury in October 2017 in for the murder of Jose Fernandez, a popular Main Street bartender in Park City. Henfling is serving an indeterminate term of 16 years to life in the Utah State Prison. Henfling’s earlier request for a new trial in 2019 was denied and his appeal to the State Court of Appeals last year was also denied.
Monday's denial of Henfling’s Petition for Writ of Certiorari ends his direct appeal of his conviction.
