New statewide COVID-19 cases were lower Monday, but cases in Summit County continue to spike.
The Utah Department of Health announced 1,487 new COVID-19 cases Monday, which is almost 700 less cases than the state saw at the same time last week. However the state also administered over a quarter less tests.
Summit County’s case numbers continue to rise. The health department reported 71 new cases, the second highest single day case count. Last Wednesday the county saw its highest single day increase with 77 new cases.
Wasatch County reported 23 new cases. In comparison, last Monday, the county saw 39.
Utah’s Department of Health reported four new deaths. To date, 1,396 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including six from Summit County and 16 from Wasatch County.
The state saw an increase of 4,737 new tests administered. The statewide 7-day rolling average for positive tests is 30.5% which is down from Sunday’s average.
Summit County’s seven-day average of positive laboratory tests is over 25%, and more than 32% of tests are coming back positive on average in Wasatch County.
Utah’s Department of Health reported 74 new hospitalizations. There are 554people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Statewide, 87% of referral center ICU beds are in use.
738 people were vaccinated for COVID-19 since Sunday, bringing the total number to 103,547 first doses administered.
