Sunday COVID-19 Update: 1,585 New Cases Statewide, 34 Cases in Summit County, 22 in Wasatch

Despite increasing COVID-19 testing over the last week, new cases throughout the state have continued to decline.

The Utah Department of Health announced 1,585 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, which is almost 700 less cases than the state saw at the same time last week.

The state reported an increase of 7,199 new tests administered. 

Summit County reported 34 new cases. In comparison, last Sunday Summit County saw 55 cases.

Wasatch County reported 22 new cases. Last Sunday, the county saw 38.

The statewide 7-day rolling average for positive tests is almost 23% which is down from Saturday’s average. Both Summit and Wasatch Counties’ averages are above the state’s - with both counties reporting around 27% of lab tests are coming back positive.

Utah’s Department of Health reported eight new deaths. To date, 1,493 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including six from Summit County and 16 from Wasatch County.

Utah’s Department of Health reported 66 new hospitalizations. There are 557people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Statewide, over 97% of referral center ICU beds are in use. 

4,660 people were vaccinated for COVID-19 since Saturday, bringing the total number to 157,170 doses administered. Both Summit and Wasatch Counties started vaccinating teachers last week.
