Tuesday COVID-19 Update: 1,411 New Cases Statewide, 23 Cases in Summit, 25 in Wasatch

Utah’s COVID-19 cases have been steadily declining, but Tuesday’s numbers were up over last week’s.

The Utah Department of Health announced 1,411 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, which is about 100 more cases than the state saw at the same time last week.

The state reported an increase of 9,291 new tests administered. At the beginning of the month the rolling-average of tests coming back positive was around 30%, after a quick decline, the state has been hovering around 19% positivity for over a week.

Summit County reported 23 new cases. In comparison, last Tuesday Summit County saw 33 cases.

Wasatch County reported 25 new cases. Last Tuesday, the county saw 12.

Utah’s Department of Health reported 17 new deaths but noted that four of the deaths were from December. To date, 1,613 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including six from Summit County and 16 from Wasatch County.

Utah’s Department of Health reported 83 new hospitalizations. There are 452people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Statewide, around 86% of referral center ICU beds are in use. 

8,062 people were vaccinated for COVID-19 since Sunday, bringing the total number to 237,637 doses administered. Both Summit and Wasatch Counties are vaccinating teachers and residents 70-years or older.
