Sunday COVID-19 Update: 1,194 Cases Statewide, As Percentage of Possitive Tests Continues To Decline

Earlier this month Utah had a record high rolling-average of positive COVID-19 tests. On the last day of January, the department of health reported the state’s lowest average since mid-October.

  

The statewide 7-day rolling average for positive tests is around 17% which is the lowest it’s been since Oct. 19. 

The Utah Department of Health announced 1,194 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, which is around 300 fewer cases than the state saw at the same time last week. The state reported an increase of 6,472 new tests administered. 

Summit County reported 25 new cases. In comparison, last Sunday Summit County saw 36 cases.

Wasatch County reported 9 new cases, which is the lowest reported case count since early November.

Utah’s Department of Health reported two new deaths. To date, 1,665 Utahns have died due to COVID-19, including seven from Summit County and 16 from Wasatch County.

Utah’s Department of Health reported 41 new hospitalizations. There are 413people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Statewide, 84% of referral center ICU beds are in use. 

10,176 people were vaccinated for COVID-19 since Saturday, bringing the total number to 310,692 doses administered. Both Summit and Wasatch Counties are vaccinating teachers and residents 70-years or older.
