A man died in a fatal car accident in Oakley early Sunday morning.

The single-car accident happened around 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of S.R. 32 and New Lane, according to a Utah Highway Patrol report.

UHP has identified the man as Peter Schrumpf, a 58-year-old from Oakley. Schrumpf was well-known in the local skiing community and has competed with Park City Ski Team.

The Subaru Legacy went off the right side of the road and hit an embankment, causing the car to go airborne before it struck a power pole. At this point the car came to a rest in the road, overturned.

Schrumpf wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and pronounced dead on scene. UHP is investigating alcohol as a factor in the accident.
