High Valley Transit

The launch of the High Valley Transit District means that the Community Development Department of Summit County has been busy too.

For the time being, Development Director Pat Putt said, the transit district will operate from a temporary office trailer and will house its vehicles at the Ecker Hill Park and Ride.

“Right now that comprises seven to nine of the Siena micro-transit vehicles. I think there’s seven regular micro-transit vans and then two handicapped-accessible vans for a total,” he said. “So they’ll be parking for those, temporary offices for that as well.”

Meanwhile, he said, the district is working on a permit for its permanent location proposed for the Florence Gilmor parcel, which the county owns along the U.S. 40 frontage road near Home Depot.

“It’ll include a depot building and probably an associated ancillary cabana for the outside storage of the vans and the buses,” Putt said. “We’re working towards finalizing a site plan with the district and their consultants.”

Putt said that the county hopes to seek a conditional use permit late in June or during July.
