Limited Wasatch County Fourth of July Celebrations to be Held

It may be a quiet year for 4th of July celebrations in Wasatch County due to the fireworks ban, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be celebrations.

Midway and Heber City are hosting community events to celebrate Independence Day. In the Wasatch County towns, it may feel much like a normal weekend, other than the red, white and blue decorations.

The only fireworks allowed in the area will be happening Saturday night in Midway. They will shoot over Memorial Hill at 10 p.m.

Wasatch County firefighters have planned for the show in conjunction with Midway and will be present. Fireworks are banned for individual use in Wasatch County, including in cities and towns where they were allowed in past years.

Midway’s festivities include a weekend full of action, starting with a Midway Art Association sale of local art Friday, Saturday and Monday.

Saturday morning, July 3, will begin with a wake-up cannon blast at 6 a.m., also on Memorial Hill. At 7 a.m., there will be a flag-raising ceremony, musical performances and a speech and honorary citizen presentation.

A pancake breakfast at Town Square starts at 8 am, followed by a kids bike parade.

Also on Saturday, Heber City is hosting a free hot dog lunch at the city park from noon until 2 p.m. Residents are encouraged to bring blankets, frisbees and whatever they need to enjoy the afternoon with the community.

Wallsburg and Charleston do not have plans for this weekend. They will each hold celebrations for July 24, though.
