  Cool Science Radio welcomes author Gabriel Brownstein, the author of the new book, The Open Heart Club: The Story about Birth and Death and Cardiac SurgeryBorn in 1966 with a congenital heart defect known as the tetralogy of Fallot, Gabriel Brownstein entered the world just as doctors were learning to operate on conditions like his. He received a life-saving surgery at five years old, and since then has ridden wave after wave of medical innovation, a series of interventions that have kept his heart beating. Brownstein chronicles the history of open-heart surgery. The book is both a tribute to modern-day cardiology and the unconditional resilience of the human heart. 

Dr. Mark Durham - Aired April 9th, 2020

 Cool Science Radio speaks with Dr. Mark Durham from the University of Utah School of Dentistry.  Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) in teaching and in dental practice will improve dental health across the globe as students are learning exacting procedures like root canals using VR long before they ever dive into the mouth of a real person. In fact, AR is are changing the way we can learn. We spoke with Dr. Durham last month about the revolutionary ways that dental students are learning.
