In front of a number of witnesses, Dolly's Bookstore's George the cat was hit and killed by a driver on Swede Alley yesterday. The cat was 6 years old.
According to store management, George was killed instantly and didn’t suffer. The cats at Dolly’s bookstore are as popular as the bestsellers inside. Stray cats have found a new home in the bookstore for decades now.
With the loss of George, there are still 2 cats roaming – well, mostly sleeping - in the store’s sunny spots, today. Pippi and Mr. Dolly will carry on for their many fans of all ages. No special memorial is planned, other than an extra box of Kleenex for the staff of booksellers.
