Back to School, Halloween, Election Day, Thanksgiving, The Holidays…it’s a whirlwind of events and activities for the next few months. But, for the past 25 years, September in Park City also means the start of the Park City Singer’s Holiday Concert rehearsals. The first rehearsal is Tuesday evening at 7 pm at the Community Church. Carolyn Murray has this:

Attending the Park City Singers’ Holiday Concert is a tradition for many who live in Summit and Wasatch Counties. The group has performed for over two decades and and they’re always welcoming new members.

Conductor Joe Demurs says they’re looking for all voices, Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass.

“Most of it is all choral and I work to place everybody with purpose next to those who are not as experienced with those who are experienced so they all feel comfortable”

Singer Renee Mox Hall says there’s always a shortage of men and the group is also reaching out to a younger crowd this year.

“Tenors and Baritones would be oh so welcome so any male singers, tenors and baritones, we would love to recruit them. To that effort, I should also mention that we’ve reached out to South Summit High School and Park City High School and would very much welcome some mature high school students and we are actually offering some sponsorships to the choir.”

The sponsorships would allow students to participate by paying the $45.00 refundable deposit for the music. At the end of the season, students would turn in their music and get their money back.

Demurs gives a run-down of a few of the pieces planned. Singers are encouraged to come to rehearsals each week, but he also acknowledges that people have travel plans that can interfere.

“We’re doing Fum, Fum, Fum. We do Mary Did You Know, A Christmas Day Gloria which is a really nice classical piece that gets everybody in the spirit. Then we have some secular pieces like  Frosty The Snowman, I’ll Be Home For Christmas, Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer. And it’s geared this year to include some traditional carol singing  with the assembly and those people that attend the concerts so that they can be a part of it as well.”
