Monday kicked off Try Transit Week, to promote the Park City Transit system and lessen traffic.
The bus is already fare-free, but from July 29 through August 4, the Park City and Summit County transportation teams will encourage riders to hop on and win prizes. City and county councilmembers will hand out water bottles, gift cards and more to folks riding Park City Transit this week. Another Try Transit Week was planned for earlier in the summer, but Park City Transportation Planner Alexis Verson says the timing was hard to pin down.
Verson says Try Transit Week is geared toward regular riders and those who don’t usually utilize the transit system.
“I think we are trying to reward the people that are currently riding and doing their part to cut down on single-occupancy vehicle trips," Verson said. "We're also trying to encourage people who aren't as familiar with the transit system to use this sort of slower summertime season to get familiar with the bus routes. and hopping on and off. making any transfers using the transit centers.”
Verson hopes Try Transit Week will also prepare people for using transit this weekend during the Kimball Arts Festival.
“We will have dedicated bus lanes on Deer Valley Drive to help bring people to Old Town," Verson said. "It's a really great way to bypass congestion and traffic on some of the arterials, by hopping on a bus that doesn't have to wait in traffic.”
Riders coming into Park City can park their cars at the Ecker Hill Park and Ride and the Kimball Junction Transit Center, then jump on transit from there. For the arts festival, Park City Special Events Manager Jenny Diersen suggests parking for free at Park City High School, Park City Mountain Resort, Canyons Cabriolet or Deer Valley—until 3 p.m.—and taking transit from there.
