Guests of the Mariposa and Royal Street Café at Deer Valley this past January may have been impacted by a malware attack.
Alterra and Deer Valley Resorts released a statement acknowledging that between January 10th and January 28th of 2019 the payment processing systems for the Mariposa and Royal Street Café were affected by malware.
The malware was detected on May 17th, at which point a full investigation was launched. Alterra says it is believed that the malware was designed to search for track data read from the magnetic stripe of a payment card. The track data sometimes has cardholder name in addition to payment card number, expiration date and internal verification code.
The malware was removed after being discovered. Alterra is continuing to work law enforcement agencies and the payment application provider in the investigation. Additionally, Alterra is working with payment card networks to initiate heightened monitoring. Additionally, the company is working to enhance the security of payment card data.
Those who visited Mariposa and Royal Street Café between January 10th and 28th are especially encouraged to monitor statements and report unauthorized charges.
