Memorial Day is about two weeks away. Park City High School’s National Honor Society won’t be able to stage their traditional 5K Memorial Run.
The Society, like many other groups this year, have figured out a way to take the event online.
Caroline Waldman, from the Honor Society, said the event began in 2009, to remember five graduates of Park City High who died within seven months of each other.
This year, while the Run can’t happen, they’re asking participants to go online to remember a loved one, and to engage in some kind of activity for the Memorial Day weekend, May 22nd to the 25th.
“We just want people to get outside or be active--you don’t have to run a 5K—over Memorial Day weekend. And then you can go to our website and make a post, saying what activity you did, what your name is. And then if you want, you can post a picture or a story or a memory about the loved one that you lost. Hopefully at the end, people will be able to scroll through and read instead of-- normally we put banners along the track with photos of the people that their family members want to be commemorated.”
Waldman said the event is still held to help provide scholarships, and to make donations to the Homeless Youth Shelter. They’re suggesting that everybody who posts online make a $5 donation or more.
She said their goal for this year is $5000.
