Upper Provo Fire At Eight Percent Containment

Suppression efforts have continued over the weekend against the Upper Provo fire, burning near the Mirror Lake Highway in the Uinta mountains.

The U.S. Forest Service is reporting that the blaze started early Friday afternoon, about 22 miles east of Kamas in the Murdock Basin area. An investigation is underway, but the fire is reported as human-caused.

The fire has burned some 336 acres and is 8% contained.

On Saturday, emergency responders put up containment lines on the east and west sides of the blaze.

Murdock Basin Road (Forest Service Road 237) and Broadhead Meadows Road (FS road 416) are closed and the area around Murdock Basin and Broadhead Meadows. (SEE PHOTO)

Resources assigned to the fire including 160 personnel, including 4 helicopters, 3 engine and three hand crews. A red flag warning is in effect today due to hot, dry, and windy conditions west of the fire area.
