Snyderville Basin Planning Commission

An iconic Park City business is aiming to move to a new location in the Snyderville Basin.    The county planning staff just received the application.

County Development Director Pat Putt,  during his regular report to KPCW, said that Anaya’s Market is proposing a new location in lower Silver Creek, just to the east of the Bell’s Gas Station.

The popular grocery along Bonanza Drive has had to move out to make way for Park City’s planned Arts and Culture District.

Putt said Anaya’s is proposing a couple of two-story buildings for their new location.

The first, at 12,000 square feet, would have the grocery and a restaurant/café on the first floor.    The second floor would have three affordable-housing units.

A second smaller building, at 7300 square feet, will have retail on the first floor and eight residential units on top.

Putt said the plan to combine retail and residential follows the example of a recent Kimball Junction project.

“It’s based on sort of the Whole Foods model.  It’s proven successful that we can marry commercial retail office-type activity with some residential uses above it or integrated into it.  And in the case of Whole Foods, those units, I think, have turned out to be critical certainly from the standpoint of trying to address our employee, our workforce-housing needs.  But putting it in proximity to employment centers or places of work, I think, does end up being really successful.”

Putt said the proposal is just going through early reviews.   He guessed it will go before the Snyderville Planning Commission in late January or early February.
