Two candidates have emerged for the recently vacated office of Summit County Clerk. They will be voted on when the County Democratic Party holds a Zoom convention next Tuesday, May 18th.
Kent Jones, a Democrat, retired from the County Clerk’s Office at the end of April, after a combined 23 years in office.
When a filing window closed on May 11, the two candidates declaring to run were Kellie Robinson, a Coalville resident who has been the chief deputy in the clerk’s office; and Eve Furse, a Peoa resident and a former magistrate judge.
Local Democratic Party Chair Meredith Reed said the delegates will send one nominee to the County Council. That person will serve the remainder of Jones’ current term, which runs through the end of 2022.
Reed said in other business on Tuesday, they will elect a new Executive Council and hear from speakers, including Rep. Brian King, whose District 28 includes a portion of the Snyderville Basin.
