Summit County Clerk's Office Cleared Of Covid And Resumes Ballot Counting

The Summit County Clerk’s office is back at work today (Thursday) after all of the personnel tested negative for COVID-19.

On Monday, the Summit County Clerk's office announced that it would be in quarantine through Friday, due to a COVID-19 exposure in the office. On Thursday, council members received an update from County Clerk Kent Jones that they're back on the job.

According to Council Member Glenn Wright, Jones reported that all personnel have tested negative for the virus and they are back in the office verifying signatures on ballots. Staff is focused first on the process of certifying signatures. Staff will then resume counting ballots on Friday. Wright reports that the clerk’s office has received some help from the Tooele County Clerk’s office to speed the process. Jones believes they will be finished counting the outstanding ballots by Saturday. The 18,000 ballots that the office received as of Friday, October 30th have already been reported. Wright estimated there are still another 7,000 to 8,000 ballots to count. Ballots postmarked by November 2nd can be counted up until the official canvass that takes place on November 17th.
