Park City’s Fourth of July Parade could have fewer participants than usual this year thanks a change in date and with COVID-19 recovery still underway.
The last day to submit a parade application - without a late fee - was last Tuesday. So far there have been fewer submissions than usual. The city had received 33 float applications as of Friday morning.
In past years, the city typically has around 45 at this point. City Special Events Manager Jenny Dierson says normally they end up with around 60 total applicants.
Late applications are due by June 24. Dierson says she expects to receive a few late submissions over the next week.
Traditionally the parade is held on the fourth. Last year it was called off because of the coronavirus pandemic. This year the parade has been moved to Friday July 2 to help mitigate any lingering COVID-19 concerns.
Despite fewer applicants, Dierson says she’s excited the community and local businesses and organizations want to participate even with the new date.
