Wasatch County Records 25th COVID-19 Death as Utah Sees 1,635 New Cases

Wasatch County saw its 25th COVID-19 death since the start of the pandemic today today. 

Friday's Wasatch County death was identified as a woman between the ages of 65 and 84 who was hospitalized at the time of her death. Five other statewide deaths were included in Friday’s report from the Utah Department of Health, bringing the statewide death toll to 2,658.

To date, Summit County has seen 16 COVID-19 fatalities.

Statewide, over 1,600 cases were reported for the third straight day, bringing the rolling seven-day average of positive tests to 1,365. The last time the weekly average was this high was on January 31st.

Of Friday’s reported cases, 163 were children between the ages of 5-10, 122 children aged 11-13, and 168 children in the 14-18 age group.

Sumit County recorded 18 new cases on Friday, Wasatch County saw 22.

According to the health department, there are currently 503 Utahns hospitalized with COVID-19, 42 more than one week ago.

Statewide ICU beds are currently 89% full, and COVID-19 referral center ICUs are nearly 93% occupied. The health department considers an ICU at 85% capacity to be effectively full when staff rotations and PPE and sanitation requirements are factored in.

The state also reported that 8,296 more doses of vaccine were administered. According to the health department, just under 50% of all Utahns are considered fully vaccinated, and 61% of people over the age of 12 and eligible for the vaccine are.
