South Jordan Man Arrested After Attempting To Kill His Brother In Summit County

Summit County Sheriff's Office

Summit County deputies arrested a Salt Lake Valley man early Sunday morning after he allegedly shot and tried to kill his older brother.

The suspect, 32-year-old Christopher Leahy Head of South Jordan, has been booked into the Summit County Jail.

The Sheriff’s Department reported that Dispatch got a 911 call at about 2:45 a.m. from the suspect’s 35-year-old brother. He reported that the brothers and their families were staying at the Westgate Hotel at the Canyons. An argument took place between the brothers, because the older sibling wanted to leave with his family, and the younger Head fired a handgun. One bullet hit the victim in the right buttocks and the other lodged in the wall of the hotel room.

The victim was taken to a Salt-Lake-area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Head was arrested for Attempted Homicide, a First-Degree Felony; two counts of Discharge of a Firearm; Intoxication and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon while Under the Influence. Since family members were present, including children, the suspect has also been charged with five counts of Reckless Endangerment and three counts of Domestic Violence in the Presence of a Child.

The suspect is being held on $100,000 bail.
