Summit County Sheriff Department Responds To Variety Of Thefts

Summit County Sheriff's Department

Recent reports from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office include some robbery incidents at the Outlet Mall, and separate cases of individuals creating disturbances.

Deputies reported making contact with a total of three suspects involved in different cases, but who all traveled up from Salt Lake in the same vehicle.

Sheriff’s Lt. Andrew Wright said on the night of March 27th, a store employee reported their security camera showed a customer taking a belt without paying. Deputies circulated in the area with photos from the tape and found the suspect in an SUV who confessed taking the item.

A second male in the vehicle confessed to stealing a pair of sunglasses. Officers reported the two were cited and released. They were identified as a 37-year-old from Salt Lake, and a 32-year-old male from Kearns.

A third male in the vehicle, though, became confrontational with officers. A records check found he was wanted for several warrants.

The SUV was towed to the Sheriff’s Office. A search warrant was approved, and officers found stolen items valued at about $4000, including 118 clothing items, tools, copper piping and sports memorabilia.

The suspect, arrested for the warrants and drug possession, was identified as a 41-year-old man from Salt Lake.

In another incident, reported on Monday, April 1st, officers are looking for a suspect who robbed an Outlet store and fled the scene. The suspect only took two pairs of sunglasses, but they are valued at a total of $1,100. Lt. Wright said they were designer sunglasses—one a Christian Dior, the other, a Versace.

Also, on April 1st, deputies were contacted by staff at the Kimball Junction Transit Center, saying that a man in his 20’s was harassing patrons there and kicking around items. Deputies stopped at the Center several times and circulated in the area but didn’t locate the suspect.

Finally, a report from Monday night said a suspect created a disturbance at a convenience store, while absconding with two big cans of Red Bull and cigarettes.

The report that the suspect was throwing items in the store, located in Summit Park, and yelling at the clerk that the employee was going to be arrested by Sheriff Martinez.

Officers found the suspect outside the store, smoking and drinking the Red Bull, and a search found the man had two glass drug pipes. The suspect, identified as a 35-year-old Park City man, was arrested and booked into the County Jail.
