Employees who have to stay home from work due to COVID-19 can now get compensation for missed days on the job.
The Utah Labor Commission announced the Small Business Quarantined Grant as a way to help companies pay for employees who have to quarantine or take sick-leave due to a positive COVID-19 test result.
The grant uses $2 million in funding from the CARES Act. It will reimburse employers who pay workers to isolate for as long as two, 40-hour work weeks.
Speaking at a COVID-19 briefing Governor Gary Herbert said this new grant will help alleviate some of the pressure employees feel.
“They're sometimes afraid if they don't show up to work, even though they're sick, that they'll lose their job, or they're gonna lose their income,” Herbert said.
