Last night (Wednesday), the Wasatch County Council voted in favor of becoming a second amendment sanctuary county.
Wasatch County Councilmember Kendall Crittenden sponsored the gun sanctuary ordinance. He said Uintah, Beaver, Wayne, and Iron Counties have similar regulations in place. Additionally, Second Amendment Sanctuary resolutions have passed in multiple counties around the state.
The Wasatch County ordinance passed the County Council in a 5 to 2 vote, with Mark Nelson and Marilyn Crittenden voting against the declaration.
In the April 21 meeting, Kendall Crittenden (no relation to Marilyn) said the County Council formed a committee to work on the project. During the April meeting, the Council received dozens of public comments in favor of the county ordinance.
"Our August meeting of last year, we discussed having a committee consisting of three council members, myself, councilwoman Marilyn Crittenden and Councilmember Nelson, and we have three citizens on that committee, Scott Lewis, Sandy Hughes, and Ryan Hobbs. And then we also included Sheriff Rigby and a representative from the county attorney's office."
Wasatch County Sheriff Jared Rigby wrote the second amendment sanctuary ordinance 21-04. Rigby did not respond to KPCW for a comment for this story.
