The 11th Annual Filmmakers Showcase Reflects the Sign of the Times

Filmmakers Showcase
Founder Jill Orschel says this year's showcase has more films than ever.

This year’s Filmmakers Showcase proves the event is only getting better. Six countries including Ireland, Austria and Cuba are represented. Founder Jill Orschel said there are more collaborative efforts with a record breaking 26 total films from filmmakers of all backgrounds.

“We have a whole range this year," Orschel said. "Some seasoned filmmakers, some filmmakers that have been in the business for a while as well as students. We have college students, high school students, middle-school students; we have two 15 year olds.”

The main event is at 7 p.m. in the Santy Auditorium but there is a preshow at 6:30 p.m. in the Park City Film Series community room that includes seven short films. They will be shown again post screening in the same room.

Orschel said the films are varied and a reflection of the times.

“Kind of in our troubled world right now where, boy – our country is so split and there are so many tough issues that are needing to be addressed right now," Orschel said. "Art and films included are a reflection of that. And the films that we see at this year’s Filmmaker’s Showcase really shows that. We’ve got films about saving the world. We have films about technology and what that means, diversity and minorities, LGBT. Films about medicine and aging, spirituality - just a whole range of subjects that are really on people’s minds.”

The event is free and open to the public.
