According to the Utah Highway Patrol the green Ford Expedition was traveling eastbound on SR-40 Wednesday afternoon on snowy and icy roads when tragedy struck. The driver lost control of the car near mile marker 52, about 4 miles east of Strawberry Reservoir near the Soldier Creek turn. The Expedition slid sideways into the westbound lane where the driver side of the Expedition was hit with the front plow portion of a UDOT snow plow. The driver Esteban Rivas-Dimas of Roosevelt, and the passenger directly behind him, Pascual Navarro of Mexico both died in the impact. The other two passengers and the driver of the snow plow were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Utah Highway Patrol reports that speed on the snowy roads and equipment issues were contributing factors. The rear tires of the Expedition were largely bald and in an unsafe condition.
