Heber Announces Filing Dates To Run For City Council

Heber City

With three council spots up for election this November, the majority of Heber City’s council is up for grabs.

In a public notice issued last week, Heber City announced that the one-week candidate filing period will be Monday June 3 through Friday June 7.

The council spots currently held by Jeff Bradshaw, Ron Crittenden, and Jeff Smith will all be up for election.

Councilman Bradshaw said he was unsure if he’d run again but was leaning towards seeking re-election. Councilman Crittenden did not say either way if he would file for re-election but did say he would support responsible candidates who shared his values of fiscal conservatism and limited government. Councilman Smith has yet to respond to an email asking if he will seek re-election.

According to City Recorder Trina Cooke candidates can choose to file for election themselves and there’s no limitation to the number of people that can file for city council. An alternative route allows residents to nominate someone else if they collect signatures of 20% of the cities registered voters. Declaration of Candidacy forms must be filed in person with the City Recorder during regular business hours 8:00 am – 5:00 pm on the dates in June.

All candidates who file will be placed on the November ballot, residents will be given three votes to cast. The top three vote winners will be elected to a four-year term on the council.

A $50 filing fee is required to run for council. Other requirements include being at least 18 years old and a US Citizen. Interested candidates must also have no felony convictions, be a registered voter of Heber and a resident of the city for at least 12 months from the November election day in 2019.

If you have questions you can contact the City Recorder Trina Cooke. 435-657-7886.
