13 Year Old Girl Missing From Midway Is Likely A Runaway According To Her Parents

The case of a 13-year-old girl who went missing from the Homestead Resort Saturday afternoon appears to be a runaway situation, and not an abduction.

The family and friends of Annika Rose Bird put up a Facebook post late Saturday. The post said that at around 1:00 pm she was swimming at the resort in Midway with relatives, said she was going to their car and didn't return.

Contacted by KPCW Sunday afternoon, her father Chris Bird said that apparently she contacted a friend who picked her up from the Homestead. He said she has texted her mother, aunt, uncle and other friends, saying she is fine, and will come home when she is ready.

Bird said that they have no idea who she is hiding out with, or where. He said no one has heard her voice, but the texts are using are using expressions and language she would use.

He said they contacted the Wasatch County sheriff, as well as law enforcement in Park City, Springville and Roosevelt, because they had a report she had been seen there.

Bird said he is still worried, but at least he isn't thinking the worst, and that, he said, is a huge relief.

As of Sunday night, the Wasatch County Sheriff Facebook page said that her family would be picking her up soon.
