After Disasters, DNA Science Is Helpful, But Often Too Pricey
For decades, DNA has been used to identify victims of crime, even victims of war crimes. But there's no international standard for using DNA analysis for identifying bodies after a disaster. So some scholars are calling for an international group with the same reach as weapons inspectors.

In a plan announced Saturday, the U.S. and Russia would give Syria a week to detail its chemical weapons arsenal. Secretary of State John Kerry and his Russian counterpart reached the deal on the third day of talks in Geneva.

The rains that brought severe flooding have eased, allowing people who in northern and central Colorado a chance to regroup before more rain comes, possibly as soon as Saturday afternoon. The floods have been blamed for four deaths.
Japan Uses Laptops, Cost-Cutting To Launch Rocket Into Space
Japan has sent a space telescope into orbit, as its new Epsilon rocket delivered its payload to orbit altitude Saturday. The country's Japan's space agency calls the launch a step toward its goal "to lower hurdles to space." The launch was reportedly done via laptop.
Costa Concordia Salvage Operation To Begin Monday
A complicated salvage operation is set to begin Monday at the site of the Costa Concordia, the luxury cruise ship that ran aground off Italy in 2012. Even if it succeeds, it will be a long time before things return to normal on the island of Giglio, where the ship wrecked.
In Flooded Colorado, Rescue Amid The Rain
Hundreds of people have been evacuated from flooded areas of Colorado, which on Saturday saw a brief break in heavy rain. But with more rain in the forecast, lives and homes remain in danger.

From the east and the west, two storm systems are closing in on Mexico, bringing strong winds and heavy rains. Hurricane Ingrid is moving toward the country's east coast in the Gulf of Mexico; Tropical Storm Manuel is closing in on the southwest coast in the Pacific Ocean.
