A 77-year-old German man died Tuesday, May 6, after falling while hiking at Arches National Park.

The man was hiking a primitive section of the Windows Loop trail at Arches National Park, according to a statement from Karen Henker, public information officer for the Southeast Utah Group of National Parks and Monuments.

Other hikers began CPR before first responders from Grand County’s EMS and sheriff’s departments and Classic Air Medical arrived on scene, wrote Henker in her statement.

Those efforts were not successful and Rudolf Peters from the German town of Haltern am See died at the scene.
