Tuesday COVID-19 Update: Over 3,300 New Cases Statewide, Nearly A Third of All Tests Are Possitive

For the past week, nearly a third of all COVID-19 tests have come back positive in Utah.

The Utah Department of Health announced 3,318 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, which is close to 600 more cases than the state saw last Tuesday. 

Summit County saw 59 new cases, which is the second highest increase in a day. In comparison, last Tuesday Summit reported 33 new cases.

Wasatch County reported 22 new cases. Last Tuesday, the county saw 29.

Utah’s Department of Health reported seven new deaths Tuesday. To date, 1,312 Utahns have died of COVID-19, including five from Summit County and 15 from Wasatch County.

The state saw an increase of 9,854 new tests administered. The statewide 7-day rolling average for positive tests is over 32% which is up from Monday’s average.

Summit County’s seven-day average of positive laboratory tests is 22%, and nearly 25% of tests are coming back positive on average in Wasatch County. 

Utah’s Department of Health reported 116 new hospitalizations. There are 510people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. Statewide, over 85% of referral center ICU beds are in use. 

7,406 people were vaccinated for COVID-19 since Monday, bringing the total number to 55,981 first doses administered. The state has received more than 150,000 doses of vaccines.
